Therefore, the need to remain strong and united for the Party to exploit the rich and abundant potentials at its disposal cannot be overemphasized. We appreciate the right to hold different opinions and aspirations, however, such differences must not be to the detriment of the Party. “l passionately appeal to you all to support the incoming National Working Committee (NWC) to promote unity and avoid sentiments that are capable of causing disaffection and disunity. For those aspiring for party and public offices, your failure to realize such aspirations for Party offices or to fly the Party’s flag, should not be a basis for a campaign of calumny against the party. We should have the spirit of sportsmanship and always support the party to succeed.”President Buhari enjoined the new NWC members to promote internal democracy and equal opportunities and ensure that party primaries are not influenced by “highest bidders” going into the 2023 elections. He commended the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee for steering the ship of the party this far including; reconciling aggrieved party members, purchasing a new party secretariat and launching an aggressive membership drive that saw three governors defecting into the APC, among others.“I want to congratulate us all for being part of this history-making event and to specially appreciate the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) which has been on a rescue mission under the leadership of His Excellency, Mai Mala Buni, the Yobe State Governor, for successfully piloting the affairs of the Party in the last 18 months and organizing this Convention to elect a new National Working Committee that will take over from the Caretaker Committee.“I am glad the Party under the Caretaker Committee has bounced back to life with the reconciliation of several key and critical stakeholders and groups who had hitherto left the party or were on the verge of leaving the Party. The reconciliation process gave the aggrieved stakeholders a true sense of belonging and assurance.“It is gratifying that the Party recorded massive and unprecedented defections under the Caretaker Committee administration. APC received three sitting Governors, a Deputy Governor, Senators, Members of the House of Representatives and State Assemblies, and other key officials from opposition parties who defected along with millions of their supporters.“I am impressed to learn that the membership registration and revalidation exercise undertaken by the Caretaker Committee, has recorded over 41 million members. This has proved that we are indeed Nigeria’s leading and largest political party. It also exhibits our numerical strength and the potential to win elections at all given times fairly and squarely.”The President who adduced reasons for his recent intervention in the affairs of the party, assured that it was not intended to muzzle dissenting voices.“Recently, l had cause to intervene in the leadership crisis which was about to cause confusion in the Party. Such internal disputes are common in young democracies such as ours, but we must avoid overheating the polity and not allow our differences to tear and frustrate the Party.“Like I said earlier, it does not do anybody or the Party any good, when we, as leaders, go down so low and resort to backstabbing and name-calling in the media.“We should learn how to resolve our differences without jeopardizing our personal relationships and the fate of the Party. I want to thank the Progressives Governors’ Forum for heeding to my advice and suggestions in settling the leadership dispute,” the President said.President Buhari called on all politicians and the electorate to abide by the new Electoral Act “ to promote the process of election, enhance transparency, fill in existing gaps and add value to Nigeria’s democracy for our democracy to thrive.”In his remarks, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo said that the All Progressives Congress, has in the past eight years has embarked on the largest investment in infrastructure. He said the APC-led government has invested on agriculture more than any previous administrator in the country. The Vice President also said that the private sector has despite constraints continues to do wonders. He advised that the party must remain focused in the coming years on the focus of the President.

Super Eagles’ll overrun Black Stars to qualify for Qatar’

A former Super Eagles coach, Christian Chukwu, says he is optimistic about the Super Eagles qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup after their playoff fixture with Ghana’s Black Stars.Chukwu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Wednesday that he was “highly hopeful” of victory for the Super Eagles at the end of the two-leg encounter.NAN reports that the fixture begins with Friday’s game at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, while it will end on Tuesday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.I am optimistic of the national team’s victory. I am already praying and mobilising local support for their victory,” the now-retired coach, who was with the team as an assistant coach in 1994 when it made its World Cup debut, said.He stated that while he was concerned that the full complement of the Nigerian squad was not around for the match he was however still full of hopes.“I am of the belief that those around for the game will deliver for Nigeria.“But in a situation where some invited players do not make it, we must know that this is a sign that there is the need to groom and get home-based Super Eagles players ready to replace anybody in the squad.”Chukwu, who captained the team when it was the Green Eagles, said such a situation was an indication that the Super Eagles’ handlers should never neglect the home-based players.“There should be a development plan, as they (home-based players) may be so useful in times like these,” he said.Chukwu however challenged the team’s coaching crew to deploy superior technical and tactical patterns of play as the Black Stars would definitely try to pull some surprises against the Super Eagles. He also said he was sure Nigerians would rise in full support of the team, as “they have been supporting the Super Eagles all along and they will do same this time”.The former defender however urged the players to reciprocate the support by putting their best into the game so as to do the nation proud.“Our players should fight for it and be resilient because playing at the World Cup remains the most important dream and prayer of any outstanding footballer.“The World Cup is the showpiece and zenith of football.“It has great potential of selling both the individual player and his country of origin to the rest of the world,” the former Super Eagles coach said.NAN reports that the winners over two legs between Nigeria and Ghana will qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals billed for Nov. 21 and Dec. 18 in Qatar.

Worsening economic, security challenges: Ortom calls on President Buhari to resign.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to step aside and allow the Vice President to take over the leadership of the country. The Governor who gave the advise Monday during an interaction with newsmen in Makurdi said the call became necessary because it had become glaring that the President lacked the capacity to lead the country out of the present All Progressives Congress, APC, induced predicament. He said he was making the call as a patriot who meant well for the country and also remains committed to the unity, progress and development of Nigeria. The Governor said, “I have been in government for a very long time. I was a Local Government Chairman from 1991 to 1993. And I have been there at the state level and at the Federal level and today back at the state as Governor. So when I see something that is wrong instead of keeping quiet, and since I do not want to be complicit to the evil that is going on in our country today, I have to speak out.“I want to say that the All Progressives Congress, APC, led Federal Government has completely failed in their promises. Also the leader of the party and leader of our countSince the inception of our country Nigerian even before the independence of our, we have never witnessed this kind of nepotism that is going on in our country. We have never witnessed this level of disunity in our country. We have never seen this level of insecurity and we have never seen this kind of economic downturn the way we have it today.“I am a grassroots person, so I appreciate the feelings of the people out there. I feel so sad and I also pity the President of our country because those surrounding him are deceiving him and he is not aware of the plight of our people.Presidentt Buhari has completely failed to fulfill the promises that he gave to Nigerians. The basic responsibility of any government we were told is the provision of security for lives and property. The level of insecurity in the country today is worrisome“Those people who are complacent and living in their comfort zones without looking at the reality of what is happing in our country today should have a rethink.“It is really unfortunate that I have over 1.5million IDPs in Benue state out of the projected seven million population that I have in Benue, and more than 80 percent of the IDPs are farmers that earned us the appellation of the food basket of the nation.“Today they are in IDPs camps suffering. As if that is not enough, everyday you wake up to the news that Fulanis with the consent of the federal government have decided to make life unbearable for my people in Benue state.”Continuing, the Governor said: “How can we allow our country go on with this level of impunity by the APC led Federal Government? How can they allow these Fulani herdsmen to come and murder, kill and rape our women and children?“So the Federal Government has completely failed and I want to call on our President, Muhammadu Buhari to accept the fact that he has failed this country and I want to advise him to honorably resign as President of Nigerian.“He can resign and hand over to his Vice to handle the affairs of this country otherwise this country is going down. No wonder in 2014 I saw a video clip where the President promised Nigerians that his APC government was going to take Nigeria from the top to bottom.“And today if nothing is done, if the president does not rise up to the responsibility of taking this country out of the bottom to the top, we are going underneath.“Those who are keeping quiet should continue, but I have said my beat. They can insult me and also send the EFCC after me and declare all the things we do right as wrong. But I have nothing to hide, if you come after me I will approach the courts because I have nothing to hide.“I will always stand for truth, equity fairness and justice and that is all. This country belongs to all of us. It is not about a Fulani President or President Buhari.“We have had Fulani presidents who I adjudged as the best we have ever had. We had President Shagari, a Fulani man from the caliphate. He was a good leader. He provided security for lives and property. We had President Yar’adua a fulani man from Katsina state. He did very well and till tomorrow nobody has provided the solution to the Niger Delta crisis more than President Yar’adua a Fulani man.“So the issue today is about incompetence, it is about non-performance, it is about barefooted leadership, it is about lame-duck, it is about somebody without a vision and direction to lead our country.“So I call on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign. If he wants APC to continue he should hand over to his Vice to take up from there. Anybody who is deceiving President Buhari telling him that he has performed well is a liar.”

NATIONAL Convention: APC’s in injury time — Senator Al-Makura.

Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura is one of the frontline national chairmanship aspirants in the All Progressives Congress, APC. In this interview, the immediate past governor of Nasarawa State says that the APC is in injury time. He also debunks the insinuation that President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed one of the aspirants for the chairmanship seats and also enumerates what he will be bringing to the table for the party to win the 2023 general elections.Personally, I feel I’ll be doing a disservice if I do not partake or show interest in presiding over the party particularly at this transition point. I think it would be a disservice for me as a committed member of APC not to show interest so that I’ll be able to add value to the administration of the party, especially at this point in time, the transition period. What I’m bringing to the table is the experience I have garnered over time, particularly, my participation in the merger taking into consideration the unanimity and total submission that the different tendencies in this country have had to do to ensure that we come as one united indivisible people with one destiny. That is something we must sustain and promote so that younger Nigerians coming behind will benefit from this mutual understanding to move the country forward. I’m also bringing to the table my experience with President Buhari because I have learned the tutelage of transparency, good values, and commitment to what is good for everybody.I feel if I become the national chairman, those experiences I have had to garner from my interaction with him, will be brought to bear to sustain those values, and legacies. Not only that, virtually all the people that came together to put this party together not necessarily to be an election winning machine but a platform where Nigerians will come together, talk and work together for the benefit of the country. Given the way and faith with which Mr. President has held all these tendencies together as one and indivisible is something that we are striving to sustain. Finally, my experiences in the field of politics, political administration as a youth leader and as a secretary, by belonging to different constituencies like the youths, governors, and legislators are all advantages that can be brought to bear to smoothen administration on the party in such a manner that when you adjudicate or mediate, or preside or direct affairs within the party, you are doing that with people that have known each other. I think our party at this point in time requires someone with that pedigree for the party to ensure a successful transition, and also success in the 2023 elections. There was a report that you are daring Mr. President, by going ahead with your campaign when it was speculated that Mr. President had endorsed somebody. What do you have to tell those who say you are daring Mr. President?

Ebonyi: APC lampoons Wike over utterances against Umahi.

The Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Sunday, came heavily on Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for allegedly making uncomplimentary remarks against the personality and political status of Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State. The Governor of Rivers State was quoted as saying that Umahi was passing through a judicial crisis, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the APC in the State. Disclosing this in a statement titled “Gov. Wike’s reckless outburst against Gov David Umahi: An affront on Nigeria Judiciary”, the State Chairman of APC, Chief Stanley Okoro-emegha alleged that Governor Wike “has achieved nothing other than violence, turbulence and destruction of people’s hard-earned property ever since he became the Governor of Rivers State”.The statement read in part: “The attention of the Ebonyi State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to the reckless outburst of the primitive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike. The Rivers State Governor was reacting to the very unjust and widely condemnable Federal High Court ruling which recently sacked Governor Umahi and After listening to Governor Wike’s reckless tirades against Governor Umahi, which is very characteristic of him, the Ebonyi APC feels obligated to reply the garrulous, highly pompous but poorly performing Governor of Rivers State, and to place him where he rightly belongs.“Nigerians are very much aware that there is no comparison between the widely rated performing Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Chief David Umahi, and the power-drunk Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, in any area, as Governor Umahi clearly surpasses the sleeping Governor of Rivers state in all indexes of performance both in private life and in Public service.Deputyy, Dr Kelechi Igwe. “It is a measure of the rot in our Democracy that a Governor of a state will have no qualms in publicly reprimanding and threatening to deal with a fellow Governor over an issue that is before a court of competent jurisdiction. It speaks to the malaise in the Nigerian judiciary and further lends credible credence to the insinuations that our judicial system is indeed being manipulated by some powerful forces against ordinary Nigerians.“Governor David Umahi has since appealed the judgement of the Federal High Court Abuja while hoping that the appellate courts will upturn the ruling of the lower court because it is not in consonance with any of the already established legal precedents on the issue of defection in the country.

Udom solicits partnership with churches to fight cultism.

Governor Udom Emmanuel has called for partnership with Churches to assist the government in stemming the rate of cult-related activities among youths in the State.Governor Emmanuel made the call on Sunday, during a courtesy visit on him by Redeemed Christian Church of God pastors led by Pastor Idris Enoch in charge of Region 14, at Government House, Uyo. The governor who lamented the level of moral decadence among youths said the trend of cult activities in secondary schools could be reduced with the assistance of the leadership of the Church through preaching God’s word and instilling Godly morals and values to youths. The Chief Executive further noted that most crime-related activities in the state are connected to cult activities which has ravaged the secondary schools, frowned at persons recruiting youths into the fruitless venture. I need the Church to help me on this war against cultism, if we don’t do something now, if we don’t arise to it now it’s going to cause a problem. You can’t believe that this week an SS3 student used knife and stabbed an SS2 student because they are in rival cult groups in a secondary school, and how did he go to school with a knife used to stab another student?”“Unfortunately for us, we are running free and compulsory education, so these ones perpetuating nefarious activities don’t mind sewing a uniform as if they are joining secondary schools, actually they are on evangelism initiating other students.you check every single problem and social vices I am having here stems out of cultism if you arrest armed robbers one hundred percent of them are of different cult groups, get any of them they are attached to different cult groups.“I often say if the indoctrination you are giving to these young men ends in violence, killings, in crime, in shedding of blood so you have to think that what you are doing is not right.” Governor Emmanuel, however, appreciated the partnership between the leadership of the Church and government, and welcomed Pastor Idris Enoch of Redeemed Christian Church of God ( RCCG) in charge of Region 14, to the State. In his remarks, Pastor Idris Enoch, in charge of Region 14, thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for a warm reception accorded the team. Pastor Enoch, commended Governor Emmanuel for the relative peace and security in the state which he emphasized is the bedrock of development and the landmark achievements recorded by the present administration.“Since we came we have studied the situation on the ground and our record shows that since you became the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, there has been relative peace and security.“I want to thank God for your life, if there is anything a nation needs is the security of lives and property. This atmosphere explains some of the landmark development you are seeing on the ground today in the state. We have also observed that very unusual and uncommonly, your administration has fully brought God into governance which has helped in security”, he noted
